Broken Woman

Breakdown – In cinematic jargon, it refers to the process of breaking down the script by shooting days. This breakdown makes the monumental task of producing a film more understandable and manageable, and it helps the production and directing teams understand what to shoot, when, and where.

To break a shot – In cinematic jargon, this refers to the possibility of "breaking" the master shot, the main shot, which captures all the events of the scene in a single wide shot, into tighter, closer shots.

When I began this work, I was looking for medium and close-up shots of characters, and to my dismay, as a lecturer in cinematic expression for many years, I found that in 99% of the cases, these "broken" shots were of women.
It’s as if only the female body is something cinema allows itself to break, dismantle, and isolate parts of.
From there, I began searching for a narrative that could connect these broken fragments. I tried to create a sense of urgency, as if this fantastic woman, the cinematic character, understands her desperate situation and sets out to reclaim some of her lost dignity. But this happens too late. She only achieves wholeness in her body at the moment when she decides to give up her life. The moment she jumps out of the window, off the stage, or from a cliff, because she has given up. She has given up the possibility of being whole, and there, at her final moment, she experiences a moment of redemption, where she becomes whole again.
